Balcony clotheslines are a fantastic solution for outdoor clothes drying in a small space. They are often designed to mount at or below the level of the balcony railing, so your drying laundry is less visible from outside. When not in use, they fold down out of the way.
The orientation of the clothesline cords is extremely important in balcony clotheslines. If the cords are strung lengthwise, when the clothesline is folded down, the cords run parallel to the ground and can act as a ladder. Small children or pets may be tempted to climb the cords and could either become tangled in them or get up and over the balcony railing.
Balcony Clothesline
To make a balcony clothesline non-climbable, the cords are strung from the front to the back of the frame. When folded down, they run vertically, making them impossible to climb and safe for children and pets.
If you are interested in a non-climbable clothesline for your balcony, check out the Austral range of balcony folding frame clotheslines, which offer enough drying space for up to two people and are approved for installation by Housing New Zealand.
