Everything you need to know about our new clotheslines and repairs
Rotary clotheslines tend to offer the most drying space. We have a range of high-quality fixed-head hoist clotheslines which are strong and durable and can fit very large loads of washing. For example, this large rotary line from the Austral range has up to 50 metres of total line length and can easily accommodate king-sized sheets. If you prefer a line that tucks out of sight between loads, you can opt for a folding head hoist clothesline, like this Austral Fold Away that fits 51 metres of laundry.
A folding frame washing line is a good option for smaller gardens. They can be mounted on a fence, a wall, or posts, and folded away when not in use. You can often fit a folding frame line down the side of a house – an efficient way to utilise an area that doesn’t get a lot of use. Something like this Hills Supa Fold Long Line is a great idea for narrow spaces.
Yes, we have a range of retractable clotheslines to suit both indoor and outdoor drying. They can be mounted to posts, fences or walls, and are a versatile option for small gardens or undercover in garages, carports, and laundries. That doesn’t mean that they can’t hold a decent amount of washing, though. The Austral Retract Away 40 offers up to 40 metres of drying space.
If you’re investing in a brand new clothesline, it’s important to spend a few minutes choosing the right spot for it. After all, you want to get the best out of your new line! Here are some things to consider before you install.
When choosing a location for your new clothesline, bear in mind that the strong summer sun can discolour your clothing. The best spot for drying is somewhere lightly shaded that gets a good amount of breeze.
Try to find a nice flat area with at least a metre of free space around the clothesline. That way, on windy days, you won’t run the risk of your clean sheets and clothes flapping against walls, fences or trees. Read More
When installing a folding frame line, make sure that you have enough free space to fold it right out and still stand comfortably in front of it to hang up your washing, plus about 10cm clear space on either side. For safety reasons, always install it just above head height to remove the risk of hitting your head on the bar. Read More
Ideally, you should allow for a metre of free space on each side of your retractable line so that when your laundry blows in the wind, it doesn’t rub against anything, and so that you have ample space to stand on either side to hang out your washing. Read More

In many cases, no, you don’t need to replace your entire line. It depends on how badly the wires are sagging and the overall condition of the rest of the clothesline.
