Clothesline buyer’s guide – which clothesline should you choose?

If it’s time to replace your old clothesline, or you want to install one for the first time, you might be wondering which clothesline will suit your requirements best. In this buyer’s guide, we break down the benefits of the different models we sell, to help you choose.

Fixed head hoist

  • Size: 4 to 5 metres in diameter
  • Drying space: 40 to 50 metres

Ideal for: Large families, king-sized-sheets, heavy loads, large gardens

Benefits: Large, durable, low maintenance, fast drying times

Keep in mind: Cannot be folded down

Folding head hoist

  • Size: 2.9 to 4 metres in diameter
  • Drying space: 34 to 58 metres

Ideal for: Medium to large families, large loads, medium gardens

Benefits: Plenty of drying space, can be folded down or removed completely when not in use

Keep in mind: Lines are often closer together on these models, so drying times may be a little slower, and the extra moving parts may require some ongoing maintenance

Folding frame

  • Size: 1.2 to 3.3 metres long and 0.6 to 1.5 metres deep
  • Drying space: 14 to 39 metres

Ideal for: Single people, couples, small to medium families, small properties, undercover drying

Benefits: Wide range of sizes, folds away when not in use, easy to fit in narrow spaces and in carports or under eaves

Keep in mind: It may not accommodate very big loads, but this can be solved by installing two folding frame lines side-by-side

Retractable

  • Size: 2 to 8 metres long and up to 1 metre wide
  • Drying space: 26 to 40 metres

Ideal for: Single people, couples, small to medium families, small properties, balconies, laundries, carports

Keep in mind: The retraction mechanism may require some ongoing maintenance
